I’ve just got back to the office having had to take my eldest daughter Hannah to the medical walk in centre. While playing in the park paddling pool she slipped and landed on her back. As she walked back crying to Jo (my wife), her eyes suddenly started rolling as if in a mini-fit and then she collapsed on the floor. Hannah was put in the recovery position by one of the other parents nearby and eventually she settled down and seemed OK. Jo called me at work and I went straight to them. Obviously we wanted to get her checked out especially in view of the fact that I have petit mal, a mild form of epilepsy. Anyway, she’s been told to stay inside in the cool for the time being but otherwise she’s fine. Basically she’d fainted. Not a pleasant experience. You feel so helpless and it makes you realise how important it is to do the first aid basics courses on offer. I can’t imagine how I’d feel if something happened to my child which I could’ve prevented. It is for this reason I have already contacted the HR department where I work to arrange participation in a course - I suggest you all do the same. If you want to learn more about first aid I suggest you visit the St John’s Ambulance website.
